Just 5 days more remaining ....
A really full day of exploring, playing sport and travelling. All the boys travelled into the centre of Milan for a quick shop and explore. The rugby teams returned to the hotel early but still managed a parade of the finest bags from the finest retailers Milan has to offer. Bargain of the day was someone who picked up a pair of shoes for 70 Euros originally marked at 400 Euros. For the first time on tour we were a split party for most of the day as just over half the boys went on the journey East to Padova for their rugby games. Injuries and a depleted squad meant we were unable to field a side for the planned football fixture in Milan. The other boys stayed with Ms Gorman and Mrs Marr exploring Milan’s fascinating history, architecture and yes I suppose more shopping. The boys performed very well on the rugby paddocks in the lovely quaint town of Padova against two teams from Petrarca Rugby Club. It’s obvious that they take their rugby very seriously in this part of the world. The club set up is very impressive with multiple pitches, a massive conference centre, a club shop and a Boys’ High like grandstand. The junior team went down 48-14 but the second half was 14-12 to our boys. The senior team went down 28-18 in a fiercely fought battle that saw both sides reduced to 14 men for some misconduct. Perhaps referees interpret rules differently in this part of the world but the rub of the green definitely did not go our way on many occasions. With non-contested scrums the order of the day we were climbing an uphill battle. Many players stood out for their commitment and guts, as we have come to expect of our boys across all school ventures. For the team captain to say it was one of the hardest battles they have had this season was a real compliment for our boys. They were an U-20 side so again something our boys can be proud of themselves with. We have a long drive tomorrow to Dijon in france after traversing through our 7th and last country on tour – Switzerland. Gorgeous Lucerne our destination for a lunch stopover and yes…. You’ve guessed it more shopping. |
