Mr Duffy has an amazing array of alliterations starting with "D" for descriptions of the weather whilst we have been on tour. Usually it has been first thing in the morning "dank, depressing, dreary, damp, drizzly ..." you get the picture. Usually it has cleared and been sunny by 10am. Today was not one of those days. Paris laid on her best day to get us used to home in a few days. Whilst we have usually endeavoured to stick as a whole group throughout the tour. Today was one of those days where time and desire allowed us to split before becoming a family again. Whether it was gift shopping, or chilling or sports shopping or museum visiting on offer the boys had a full morning... well apart from the 10 or so who decided to chill at the hotel. Continuing the world record form of yesterday we left on time for the rugby and only arrived a tiny bit late. Frustratingly the Metro side changed what they wanted from the senior game and it turned into mostly a training game as they have a big national quarter final this weekend. All we knew before the game is that it would be a game with non-contested scrums. The junior game was a very watchable game and whilst tackling and support from the forwards was fine, the speed of the opposition backs (like most games on this tour) was too much for our boys. Exact score unknown at this stage but it was around 6 tries to 2. The friendliness shown in the post match function from both sets of boys was terrific to see. The journey home was a nightmare with every turn, inner city roads, national highways blocked and clogged until the cows came home. Ray tried everything his brain and GPS could muster but it was no good. We desperately tried to ring the hotel to ask them to keep the kitchen open but luck certainly wasn't on our side. We were around 10 minutes too late. The boys won't complain - there was a pizza each organised for them. Big day tomorrow. We visit three war graves, two Commonwealth ones and one German one. Service at the Menin Gate will be a fitting end to our holiday in many ways. See you all in 3 days!! How cool and sad is that!?!? |
