Our boys step up to the mark ... again
We met our second home today. A massive 78 seat double decker coach. Due to its size we were forced to load up all the luggage outside one of Paris' poshest hotels. It took a wee while but eventually we got going at just after 9am. A long, long drive ensued with the boys having their first experience of motorway service stations in Europe, including the NZ$0.80 charge for going to the toilet! Another minor miracle was performed with a later than expected arrival into Dortmund and then the quickest feed of 60 boys and change into school uniform and off to the choral academy of Dortmund. The boys, as Ms Gorman says, 'scrub up well!!!' What followed was another magnificent occasion joined with special friends that Mr Duffy first met a few years ago. We had organised the Mayor of Dortmund (pop 580 000) to join us before he had to depart to meet a delegation from Kazakhstan. The boys showed enormous pride in their performance and in themselves and representing the school. Though the venue could not quite match the splendor of Windsor, the boys have certainly stepped up their quality of singing on this occasion. The magnificent haka the boys performed certainly stopped a few heartbeats in the German crowd. Quick walk though the streets of Dortmund on the way back and finally good to see no shops open. The replacement activity was us adults being accosted by the town drunk! Hilarious but thankfully only for a short while. |
