Boys and their big toys
What a difference it makes to check into the hotel in Salzburg at 7pm rather than 9pm as was the case yesterday in Stuttgart.. In time for a glorious dinner and some relax time. Some of the boys and two of the teachers have ventured into town after dinner to see the old architecture at night. Lit up at night it is truly magnificent. We left the hotel at around 10am today after the usual ritual of packing the bus which s actually proving to be the most relaxing time on the day for some of us. Two boys haul themselves into the luggage hold and the rest of us just wave hands and clipboards and look busy. Stuttgart was in interesting town. It looks very much like Dunedin in many ways. Town on the flat and homes in the hill suburbs. The visit to the Mercedes museum was a a real treat for us all. Even those non-petrol heads amongst the group appreciated the social and political history embedded within the timeline. At 3 Euros for each of the boys it was great value and some great eye opening, interactive education and entertainment. The journey south to Salzburg livened up as we approached the border with Austria. This was the first chance the boys had to see true alpine scenery and with perfect timing the clouds broke and the sun shone to reveal distant snow capped peaks. We had en excellent home cooked meal tonight in the hotel. Mushroom and chicken strogonov type dish with rice and veges. Many of us thought the best meal yet and we have generally been very well fed on tour. Tomorrow a relaxing sleep in yet again. 9am breakfast for a planned 10am stroll through Salzburg and then depart for Innsbruck at 2pm. Just a short haul tomorrow. Of course being a working day there will be shops open and of course our boys will shop 'til they drop. |
