An awesome day for all .. beginners to experts!
Everybody up and ready by the requested time of 6.30 and ready to depart for 7.40am for a 40 minute drive to the slopes. As we climbed you could sense the cooling air matched by a real sense of impatience from the boys … and teachers! At the head of the valley the clouds cleared and the sun revealed a mountain view that just screamed “get me up there and let me loose on those slopes!!” All the organisation done back in NZ paid off as we got to the ski rental place. All the skis and boots were sorted, named and adjusted for our boys. Those boys who changed their minds from skiing to snowboarding at the last moment caused a wee delay but by 10am our boys were skiing in the European Alps! Unbelievable! Today has been a real highlight of our tour so far. The boys had such fun. What a privilege. Thank you to all the parents back in NZ – your boys had such a treat today. Some of the beginner skiers made tremendous progress and were safely whizzing down the slopes by the end of the day. We were doubly lucky today as yesterday the weather was atrocious. Today and the forecast tomorrow is blue sky day. The only thing of concern is the panda eyes at the end of the day. Bright late April sun reflecting off the pistes can beat any 30 degree day back home. And then at 4.30 we thought we were all safely down to the bus but no .. where is Mr Duffy? After some patient waiting in the calm late afternoon air we started to get worried when the gondolas stopped. Worry turned to big worry with a spice of mild panic. A quick ring from the bottom of the chairlift station revealed that Mr Duffy had been picked up by the last ski patrol of the day. Literally the last man off the mountain Mr Duffy rejoined us to a heroes reception! |
