There are only so many times you can say things are going too smoothly when .....
Well what a day. 62 of 66 people on tour safely in Paris where it was actually a stinking hot afternoon on arrival. Someone commented at tea how we are one hour closer to home (the clocks are one hour forward from the UK here in France). Well after the one hour drive from the train station in Paris to the hotel no place could seem further from home. Crazy driving, scooters on suicide missions, people smoking like their lives depended on it, homeless people kipping where even sleeping beauty would be woken .... and then at the hotel two boys said "I prefer Paris to London sir!!!" The loss of two boys' passports today tested everyone's mettle and resolve. It was a positive experience to see people pull together and not panic. The remaining boys were patient while the teachers and hotel staff turned over every last stone to find the passports. Strong suspicions that 1 of the 2 was stolen but the important thing was that we were getting on and getting it sorted. 35 phonecalls ($NZ130 ..ouch!!) later and we are confident that the group will be one whole by tea time in Paris tomorrow. The boys seem as excited to be in Paris as they were 5 days ago when we arrived in London. Some have just been told in no uncertain terms at 11.45pm to go to bed after sneaking into the foyer area.... name and shame at the Notre Dame tomorrow and they can join Quasimodo for a punishment! Tomorrow we are hanging out for a few hours in the museum/art district of Paris. The boys will get chance to try some French language and buy a real croissant from a real Boulangerie in Paris. Bon nuit mon amis.... |
